30 Egg Yolks at Stake!

Thirty yolks and twelve layers later, my Kue Lapis was quite a disappointment. You all read what happened during the exciting baking process. My apartment fire alarm decided to blast off while I was at my ninth layer. Blardy people burnt their food and costed the entire community half an hour standing in the cold. To some people (me) it’s near life and death matter.

I endured the stinging siren for a good 5 minutes waiting for the 9
th layer to be done, even proceeded to make sure air bubbles were poked and flattened before dashing out 8 flights of stairs. I'm pretty sure the policemen were about to take down my door. Then my poor sister almost had her eyeballs popped out witnessing me. I swear she looked like she was ready to chop me up to pieces LOL.. What I did was ridiculous. But at that moment I didn’t even care one bit about the smoke. What smoke?? The most I will jump from my window. hahaha I obviously watch too much Naruto.

Eh, I’m still mad over it lor. All that SMSes with mom (costs me $0.20 each time to receive international txt msg) for the recipe, the nippy walk at night to QFC to get extra eggs, the careful metric conversions, the excitement of trying childhood fav, all amount to nothing but an uncooked cake. Considering all the effort we went through, it’s such a shame. It tasted like I remembered, but sadly it wasn’t cooked all through between layers. When spots of brown formed on each layer, I assumed it’s cooked, and was worried any longer in the oven will burn it. Only later I realized that I was supposed to use broil (top heat) for this cake. Duh~

This is definitely going down in Kristi’s baking disasters history. I’m sorry dear sister, for putting you in such a life threatening situation with me. Btw, thanks for the ear plugs. You did good, you did real good.
